I bought this flash to go with my Elan 7E, and it worked fine. It has all the features that most users will never have EOS (vertical and horizontal jump, rapid synchronization and control E-TTL). Not as good as the 550EX, but if you are not using the mutliple slave flash, it's a better deal, almost half the price (even if the 420EX can be used in a wireless slave flash with the 550EX as master) . If you are buying an EOS camera flash outside, can not go wrong with that. "Whether you shoot film or digital.
